Lawrence Tierney is Sam, an ex-inmate prone to "seizures of violence" in which he can't control himself.
Early on, we see him for what he really is: a violent nut. When his new girlfriend accepts a date with her ex-boyfriend, Sam... well, let's go to the clip.

And it pretty much goes along like that. In every situation, Sam chooses violence and by the end of the movie, virtually all of the main cast is dead.

It's not a bad movie, but it isn't good, either. It's mostly a vehicle for Tierney to show off what a great bad guy he is, and in that respect, it works quite well.
