All week long, I'll be serializing a special two-chapter preview of 3rd LAW: Mixed Magical Arts on Royal Road!
In two weeks, the first volume of my magical-martial arts fantasy series 3rd LAW: Mixed Magical Arts is out! A fully-fledged light novel in the Japanese tradition, with a dozen illustrations by Hugo Petrus, this is for fans of manga, light novels, anime, martial arts, and JRPGs - it's got it all!
The novel is out 2/22/22 in both ebook and print editions and you can pre-order the Kindle edition now at Amazon by clicking here. Print edition will be out the same day. This book is a long time coming. It's something I've wanted to write for a long time, and even after I wrote it, it took quite a while to bring it to fruition. It's finally almost here, though, and it's something I'm very proud of. It's quite different from the typical mien of my prose, but it reflects some of my personal interests and genre loves that I've never been able to express before, so I really hope you'll give it a chance. Haven't done one of these in a while, but let's just jump right in. Lawrence Tierney is Sam, an ex-inmate prone to "seizures of violence" in which he can't control himself. Early on, we see him for what he really is: a violent nut. When his new girlfriend accepts a date with her ex-boyfriend, Sam... well, let's go to the clip. Danny seemed bound and determined to just keep making the same mistake over and over. And it pretty much goes along like that. In every situation, Sam chooses violence and by the end of the movie, virtually all of the main cast is dead. But, hey, look who Sam's room-mate is! It's not a bad movie, but it isn't good, either. It's mostly a vehicle for Tierney to show off what a great bad guy he is, and in that respect, it works quite well.
